He sought to remedy the problem by devising practice routines that can take less than an hour, and which consist of drills that the kids will not only find fun and interesting, but will help them consistently develop their baseball skills. In this video, Shupak and a band of Little Leaguers demonstrate more than 30 different drills that can be used on the practice field with an entire team as well as by parents and children in a backyard session. The drills focus on basics such as base running, hitting, and fielding, but they often provide a wrinkle designed to keep the kids enthused, such as a defensive drill in which fielders practice throwing from third to first while in a kneeling position, or hitting drills in which a very soft ball made of old rags and masking tape is used. August 6, 2010 Sports Spiirt Second time around in youth baseball with my nephews, I had this title with my own kids a few years ago. Losing the VHS format, I purchased this DVD and had forgotten many of the drills. But like driving a bike, once on the field with "The Mud Hounds" the drills spark interest and enthusiasm with the kids wanting more. Remembering some of what this program taught me, kids love to compete regardless of the what the PC crowd says. Combining competition with skill instruction creates a winning and fun atmosphere. We worked these drills on our team and word spread through our league quickly that most teams were following our lead. 59 minutes might be a little lean for a full practice but keep yours under 90 minutes. Very Good Baseball Drills! May 16, 2010 Rich Skinner (Newton,MA.) After I viewed this once, I asked "Where's The Beef"? Definitely not that impressed. Viewed again and this time with a remote. Much better! Putting the content into use made me a believer. We practiced better. The team showed more heart and we came back from games I never thought we had a shot. My 5 favorite things about "59": 1) Efficient yet meaningful practices work. 2) The 3rd base drill is effective. Throwing from the furthest part of the infield gives the players "muscle memory". 3) Bunting is more important than I ever thought. Techniques work well. 4) Continuation drill rocks! Just make contact with two strikes. 5) Kids do love batting practice. Make it fun! If you are a borderline purchaser, trust me, this program does wonders over the course of a season!
