Fun movie August 31, 2010 Short 1 Enjoyable movie. One kind of weird thing about this DVD from Amazon (on sale) was my computer (played it on the computer) kept saying that the movie was "Pretty in Pink", other than that it was in good shape.
"80's Comedy Classic!" August 9, 2010 Gregorypwilson (Syracuse, NY USA) Matthew Broderick, Alan Ruck, Mia Sara and Jeffrey Jones
star in this 1986 John Hughes comedy. A teen plays hooky
with his friends while his principal tries to catch him. I've
liked this since I was a kid and glad to have this special
edition. It has nice picture and sound plus cool extras.
I highly recommend this 80's comedy classic.
Not the 'Ultimate' Bueller, but Fun, at a Great Price! August 1, 2010 Benjamin J Burgraff (Las Vegas) As several here have noted, there are flaws in this Special Edition of "Ferris Bueller" (the not-included John Hughes commentary track, lack of participation in the anniversary documentary by several of the cast, most notably Mia Sara, some missing deleted scenes and outtakes, and the theatrical trailer), but all this having been said, of the editions available to own, at present, "Ferris Bueller's Day Off Bueller...Bueller... Edition (Special Collector's Edition)" is, to me, the best choice. The price is incredibly reasonable, the bonus material that IS offered is fun, and if you want something to enjoy until the 'ultimate' one appears, I don't think you'll do better, truthfully!
John Hughes was our generation's Preston Sturges; a brilliantly gifted screenwriter who revealed, as a director, a unique, original vision in a handful of film classics, then burned out, tragically, gradually fading from the scene. Where Sturges specialized in likable, working class characters in escalating, awkward situations, Hughes was the voice of the young, revealing their maturity, as well as angst, in a series of wonderful comedies set at key moments of their lives...and "Ferris Bueller" is one of the best. As portrayed by the perfectly-cast Matthew Broderick, in his breakthrough role, Bueller is the archetypical likable high school 'user', smarter than the rest of the world, but guileless, willing to share his 'grand vision' with those he cares about. Just a tad less gifted is his jealous younger sister (Jennifer Grey), who never seems to get the 'breaks' he enjoys, and, of course, the nemesis is the authority figure, the vice principal (Jeffrey Jones), furious that Bueller so effortlessly can twist the rules his way! The film splits into plotlines involving each character, as Bueller and his best friends (Mia Sara and Alan Ruck) enjoy the ultimate 'skip' day, his sister attempts to 'out' him to the parents, meeting bad boy Charlie Sheen in the process, and Jones, intending to publicly punish him, is inflicted with a never-ending series of slapstick disasters. Each storyline is very funny, and the end result is one of the best films of the 1980s!
I hope the 'ultimate' Bueller film is made, someday, but until then, this edition is quite nice in my collection!
Classic Movie July 8, 2010 SRoss Classic movie, well written and a fun distraction for most anyone young at heart (and a need or wish to skip school just once).
STILL FRESH! May 25, 2010 Joseph G. Labella (NYC) Sorry Keith, totally disagree with you. Last weekend my 13 year old came across a clip of the movie online. When he told me about it I told him to jump in the car and we rented it.
All three of my boys (13, 11 and 9 years old) laughed their butts off! They thought it was great; hence it is in my shopping cart.
Twenty-five years later I enjoyed it also. I made it a point to tell the kids how it was a funny movie without excessive foul language, violence or sex.
